about
Daisy Special School was started by Reverend Perti and Heidi Soderland, a missionary couple from Finland whose passion for children with physical challenges was inspired by their daughter, Daisy, who is physically challenged. The school opened on September 4, 1995 with additional sponsorship from the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya.
Daisy School is a mixed day and boarding primary school that caters to children with and without mental and physical handicaps. The school currently teaches 251 children, and employs 25 teachers and 16 staff members. It offers three programs: the standard primary, pre-vocational and vocational, and the special class. In addition, Daisy has a physical therapy center and nursery classes. |

STANDARD PRIMARYDaisy offers a standard primary curriculum, from years 1 to 8, from which children can go on to normal secondary schools throughout Kenya.
|
PRE-VOCATIONAL AND VOCATIONALIn this program, students who cannot keep up in the academic track of the standard primary classes learn skills such as sewing, farming, and household chores. Classes are divided into a broad pre-vocational class and a more specialized vocational class.
|
SPECIAL CLASSThese classes are for students who have multiple handicaps and are unable to keep up with the curriculum of the standard primary school. In these classes, students learn the basics of counting, writing, hygiene, and life skills. The special class is split into sections of 1A, 1B, 1C, and 2, with 1A being the most severely handicapped, and 2 being the least.
